Tensions may run high in “Claude,” the 2020 holiday spot from the Illinois Lottery, but it took a combination of joy and collaboration to bring our hamster and our vision to life. We brought together a world class team to bring joy to the people of Illinois for the holidays during a tough year. Producing at OKRP, we tapped Director Matt Smuckler (Rakish) and Owner/Editor John Grover at Cut and Run to tell the love triangle just right. To create our final Claude character, we used a combination of a real-life hamster on set, a stuffed animal toy, and most importantly, the globally-acclaimed FrameStore, to create our computer generated critter. And for music? Enter Edith Piaf (Music Supervision, Comma/Bonny Dolan) - Edith’s passionate singing of “La Foule” broke through the wall of seemingly insurmountable jingle bells. From hesitation, to turbulence, to joy, it took a team effort to take the commercial from a typical seasonal spot, to a statewide sensation. The entire campaign consisted of 4 x TV commercials, OOH, Digital, Social, and Print and even a fun interactive microsite where fans could interact with the Hamster.
